Disney Pixar’s ‘Brave’

Disney Pixar has released a new trailer for their highly anticipated upcoming feature, Brave. It’s an animated tale set in the Highlands of Scotland. The film stars Boardwalk Empire‘s Kelly MacDonald in the starring role as Princess Merida, a princess quite unlike many of the Disney princesses who came before her. And the first female hero for Pixar!

Merida defies her country’s old-age tradition in favour of playing by her own rules and seeking her independence. In doing so, she unwittingly unleashes chaos on her kingdom and is forced to “discover the meaning of true bravery” in order to right the wrongs she created. The feature seems to have a much earthier feel, with lots of mossy landscapes and plenty of magic. The animation is beautiful – just look at Merida’s hair!

Julie Walters, Emma Thompson also lend their voices and top off a mostly Scottish cast of Billy Connolly, Kevin McKidd, Robbie Coltrane and Craig Ferguson. The film is scheduled for release on June 22 in the States, so expect it some time after that over here. (I still don’t know why they don’t release them at the same time everywhere)
