The Festival Awards winners were announced yesterday, and there was a big Irish dominance, with 3 wins. More than any other country! Electric Picnic, Oxegen and the new Temple House Festival each picked up an award. The awards show is held annually in the UK with the majority of the awards being voted for by the general public. The other’s like the Lifetime Achievement are voted for by a panel of journalists and “industy experts”. This year’s awards were The award breakdown is as follows:

Best Major European Festival: Heineken Open’er – Poland

Best Medium-Sized European Festival: Electric Picnic Music & Arts Festival – Ireland

Best Small European Festival:5 Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festival – Poland

Best New European Festival: Temple House Festival – Ireland

Best Indoor Festival: Rolling Stone Weekender – Germany

Best European Festival Line-Up : Oxegen – Ireland

Best Newcomer – Florence and the Machine

Best Headliner – Muse

Festival Anthem of the Year: Muse – Uprising

YOUROPE Green ‘N’ Clean Festival Of The Year: Boom Festival – Portugal

Artist’s Favourite European Festival – Melt! – Germany

The Computers are releasing a new single entitled Group Identity on February 21 with their debut album This is  The Computers to follow on May 16.

After the success of The Gutter Twins which saw Greg Dulli team up with Mark Lanegan, Greg is is back with his band The Twilight Singers (no, it’s not what you’re thinking. It’s not some über-fangirl band) They’re set to drop their fifth studio album Dynamite Steps on February 11. New song Blackbird And The Fox is available to download free on their website.

Dum Dum Girls release new EP He Gets Me High as the follow up to the absolutely inspired I Will Be on February 25. The girls play Whelans on April Fools’ Day. To give you a little taster of what to expect, here’s Jail La La from their album I Will Be.
