New Music – 20-26/09/2010

And there goes another week, and here’s this week’s new single releases.

Ke$ha – Take it Off

Ke$ha is back on form. And by “back on form” I mean, back on the boozy bandwagon. Her new single Take it Off sees the insatiable partygirl singing about boozing and generally being a filthy ho. And there’s glitter everywhere again. We’re guessing this isn’t from making those lovely pictures you used to have to make for your parents when your teacher was, and this has become clear in recent years, too hungover to teach you. But there’s something ridiculously catchy about this track and Pop Culture Monster doesn’t hate it. Yet.

Nicki Minaj – Your Love

Ground breaking. Truly ground breaking. Okay, fine. Pop Culture Monster isn’t one to lie.

Butchery. Complete butchery. If Annie Lennox were dead she’d totally be turning in her grave right now. This single could have been released in the early to mid 2000’s around the time of Eamon’s glorious Fuck You (I Don’t Want You Back), and it would have fit with the sound. There’s nothing new here, except that the hyper-sexual Minaj is showing us she can sing with auto tune. One of the most repetitive, horrible tracks Pop Culture Monster’s heard in a long time. Your love, your love, your love, your love [repeat X4]

Honourable Mentions:

Sia – Clap Your Hands

Let it be said that Pop Culture Monster is a big fan of Sia’s work. Another good pop track from the lovely Aussie with a chorus as addictive as crack flavoured Heroin.

KT Tunstall – (Still A) Weirdo

KT sings about failing to break away from being a weirdo. A nice little ditty, which is a bit low key for a single if we’re honest. It could pass under the radar easily.
